At the annual Sustainability Awards Program in April 2017, the Los Angeles Department of Water and Power (LADWP) awarded The Westin Los Angeles Airport first place in Energy Management for the highest percentage of energy savings. Earlier in the year, the hotel received an incentive check from LADWP for $393,303 for its energy efficiency projects.

The hotel, with investment from Host Hotels & Resorts, L.P., recently implemented several energy efficiency measures, including installing new high-efficiency chillers and a waterside economizer, upgrading the building management system to include temperature and static pressure reset strategies and retro commissioning the HVAC equipment.

These efforts are estimated to reduce the hotel’s energy consumption by over 25%, or 1.7 million kilowatt hours and 16,000 therms. According to the Environmental Protection Agency, that is equivalent to a reduction of 600 metric tons of CO2 per year, the removal of 120 passenger vehicles from California roads for one year, or removing 52 California homes from the electric grid.
