Marriott Hall at Marriott Marquis San Diego Marina is the latest Host property to receive LEED® (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) Silver Certification by the U.S. Green Building Council. In June 2016, the hotel, with investment from Host Hotels & Resorts, opened the new exhibit hall featuring two 36,000 square foot ballrooms, an outdoor event space and a landscaped marina walk. Marriott Hall is the fourth property in Host’s portfolio to achieve LEED certification, along with Axiom Hotel, Hyatt Regency Maui Resort and Spa and W Hollywood.

The project received points under the LEED for New Construction version 2009 Rating System for some of the following sustainable features:

• Heat Island Effect – A light-colored roof, which reduces the amount of energy used to cool the building by reflecting the sun’s energy back into the atmosphere
• Interior Water Savings – Low-flow water closets, urinals, lavatories and sinks that will reduce potable water use by over 40%
• Exterior Water Savings – Water-efficient landscaping methods and practices, such as drip irrigation and electric controller efficiency that will reduce potable water use by over 64%
• Indoor Environmental Quality – Low-emitting products, such as adhesives, sealants, paints, coatings, and flooring systems that will reduce the quantity of indoor air contaminants
• Energy Efficiency – LED lighting, high-efficiency chiller and HVAC systems, and other energy efficiency measures that exceed Title 24 Building Code requirements by 24%
• Recycled Construction Waste – Over 92% of the construction waste diverted from the landfill (The project earned an exemplary performance point in the LEED Rating System for Construction Waste Management for this initiative.)
• Green Cleaning – A high-performance cleaning program, supported by a green cleaning policy
• Alternative Transportation – Preferred parking for low-emitting and fuel-efficient vehicles
• Recycled Materials – Over 21% of building materials made with significant amounts of recycled content
• Regional Materials – Over 12% of building materials locally sourced and manufactured

Last year, the Marriott Marquis San Diego Marina also received the 2016 San Diego Gas & Electric Energy Champion of the Year Award for Hospitality for its commitment to finding new and innovative ways to be sustainable and energy efficient. During the construction process, the property participated in the SDG&E Savings by Design Program, which encourages high performance design and construction projects that showcase economic and energy efficiency.
