On September 21, Host employees joined our service team to help injured and orphaned wild animals in our area at Second Chance Wildlife Center. The Second Chance team, located in Montgomery County, MD, provides skilled and compassionate emergency treatment and long-term rehabilitative care with the goal of releasing healthy animals back to their intended roles in nature. Second Chance tasked 28 Host employees with cleaning out the organization’s barn as they prepare for a move to a new location. Volunteers carried out old cages, machinery and pieces of wood to the dumpsters, filling all three dumpsters to the brim. Once they finished that task, volunteers asked for more to do, and helped clear away some of the old animal houses and pallets on the grounds.

Second Chance also invited volunteers inside the facility to see and help with the animals being cared for. Volunteers had the opportunity to feed baby squirrels, prepare food for turtles and watch as the turtles enjoyed their daily bath. Host also donated three boxes of towels that the organization can use for the animals and made a charitable donation in support of the organization’s work in caring for our wildlife neighbors.
